GovAuctions MCP server

MCP serverDev tools

This integration connects your AI to GovAuctions.app, the public surplus-auction site. Once added, your AI can pull live listings, sold prices, and resale scores, so you can find surplus items up for auction and judge what they are worth before bidding.

Use GovAuctions MCP server in Claude, ChatGPT or Ahel Desktop

Free. Sign in, add GovAuctions MCP server and connect your AI. About a minute.

Also: Claude Code · Cursor · Codex

Then ask your AI: use GovAuctions MCP server to search listings

Details

Available today. Use it from your connected AI after setup.

After adding it, ask your AI to show what is currently listed on GovAuctions or to look up what a specific item sold for. From there you can dig into any listing that interests you.

Install GovAuctions MCP server

The server’s own address, for the clients that take one directly. Or connect Ahel once and every client you use reads it from one address, with the account kept on Ahel rather than in each client’s config.

  • Claude Code

    claude mcp add --transport http --scope user govauctions-mcp-server 'https://govauctions.app/api/mcp'

    Run it once in your project, then open /mcp to approve any sign-in the server asks for.

  • Claude Desktop

    https://govauctions.app/api/mcp

    Add a custom connector in Settings, paste this address, and approve the sign-in.

  • Cursor

    cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=govauctions-mcp-server&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2dvdmF1Y3Rpb25zLmFwcC9hcGkvbWNwIn0=

    Open the link and Cursor adds the server at that address.

  • ChatGPT

    https://govauctions.app/api/mcp

    In Settings, enable Developer mode, create an MCP app, and paste this address. Your plan and workspace must allow custom apps.

  • Codex

    Run it once, then sign in with codex mcp login govauctions-mcp-server if the server asks for an account.

From the project's README

As published by benswork-space/govauctions-mcp in README.md.

GovAuctions.app is a free public site for finding government surplus auctions: live listings from GSA and other government sellers, alongside what comparable lots actually sold for. This repo is its MCP server, a second front door onto the same data for agents and code.

Agent-callable tools for government-surplus auction data: search live listings, pull real sold-price comps from 170,000+ closed government auctions in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, and get a 0–100 Flip Score resale signal, from the same engine behind the site.

Tools

Eight tools on the hosted server, all read-only. The local npm package exposes the first four.

ToolWhat it does
search_listingsSearch live GSA federal-surplus listings (facts only). Filter by state, category, keyword, price.
get_listingFetch one live GSA listing by id.
get_sold_compsSold-price range (25th / median / 75th percentile) for a described item, across the US, UK, CA or AU government-surplus market.
get_flip_scoreFlip Score resale signal for a listing: estimated value, effective bid, and discount.
get_sold_historyThe individual archived sales behind a comp number.
get_price_trendMonth-by-month sold-price trend for a described item.
get_comp_coverageWhat can and cannot be priced, by category and market.
get_api_usageYour key's usage against its monthly allowance.

Get an API key (free tier available) at https://govauctions.app/developers.

Use it (two ways)

1. Hosted (remote), no install. Recommended.

Point any client that speaks remote MCP at the hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "govauctions": { "url": "https://govauctions.app/api/mcp" }
  }
}

Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http govauctions https://govauctions.app/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer gak_YOUR_KEY"

get_sold_comps answers on the hosted endpoint with no key at all; the other tools read your key from the request. See the developer docs.

2. Local (stdio) via npx

For clients that cannot add a remote MCP URL. A dependency-free Node wrapper (Node 18+) over the REST Data API, published to npm as govauctions-mcp:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "govauctions": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "govauctions-mcp"],
      "env": { "GOVAUCTIONS_API_KEY": "gak_your_key" }
    }
  }
}

Or download govauctions-mcp.mjs and run it with node /absolute/path/to/govauctions-mcp.mjs.

Config (env):

The local wrapper forwards every call to the REST API, so unlike the hosted server it needs a key for every tool, including get_sold_comps.

API

The tools wrap the public REST Data API. OpenAPI spec: https://govauctions.app/api/v1/openapi.json
