Offendersearch — API Quickstart

MCP serverSearch

offendersearch lets your AI search US sex-offender registries and criminal records. Every result comes with a citation for the source it came from, so you can see exactly where each finding originated.

Then ask your AI: use Offendersearch to search offenders

Details

Available today. Use it as a step in a pipeline you build, or from your connected AI.

After adding offendersearch, ask your AI to search a name against US registries and criminal records. Results will include the sources they were drawn from.

What your AI can do with it

  • Search US sex-offender registries
  • Look up criminal records
  • Show a citation for the source behind each result
  • Trace any match back to the registry or record it came from

Install Offendersearch — API Quickstart

The server’s own address, for the clients that take one directly. Or connect Ahel once and every client you use reads it from one address, with the account kept on Ahel rather than in each client’s config.

  • Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user offendersearch-api-quickstart 'https://mcp.offendersearch.app/mcp'

Run it once in your project, then open /mcp to approve any sign-in the server asks for.

  • Claude Desktop

    https://mcp.offendersearch.app/mcp

Add a custom connector in Settings, paste this address, and approve the sign-in.

  • Cursor

    cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=offendersearch-api-quickstart&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL21jcC5vZmZlbmRlcnNlYXJjaC5hcHAvbWNwIn0=

Open the link and Cursor adds the server at that address.

  • ChatGPT

    https://mcp.offendersearch.app/mcp

In Settings, enable Developer mode, create an MCP app, and paste this address. Your plan and workspace must allow custom apps.

  • Codex

codex mcp add offendersearch-api-quickstart --url 'https://mcp.offendersearch.app/mcp'

Run it once, then sign in with codex mcp login offendersearch-api-quickstart if the server asks for an account.

From the project's README

As published by clavaa/offendersearch-quickstart in README.md.

Screen anyone against all 58 US sex-offender registries — every state, DC and the territories — with a single REST call.

Get a key at offendersearch.app — the free trial is 25 searches with no card. Then set it:

export OFFENDERSEARCH_KEY="sk_your_key"

One call, 58 registries

curl https://api.offendersearch.app/v1/search \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $OFFENDERSEARCH_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "query": { "firstName": "John", "lastName": "Smith", "dob": "1982-04-11" } }'

Every match is scored for confidence and cited to its source, with a photograph and a link to the official registry record. A date of birth or age sharpens the match.

Search an area (no name)

curl https://api.offendersearch.app/v1/search \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $OFFENDERSEARCH_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "query": { "zipcode": "92501", "radiusMiles": 2 } }'

Screen a whole roster

POST /v1/batch checks many records in one call — see the docs.

Responsible use

Results are public-record data and not a consumer report. Don't use them for employment, tenancy, or other FCRA-covered decisions without the process the law requires — and never to identify, target, or harass anyone. For awareness and safety.
