DevExpress.Xpf.Accordion.AccordionControl is a hierarchical navigation control with an unlimited tree depth, multiple selection / expand modes, optional Office-style navigation-pane layout, built-in search, and Office Navigation Bar integration. Before You Start — Ask the Developer

AccordionItem plays two roles depending on context:
- Root item — top-level entry in the accordion
- Subitem — nested under a parent

The same class for both — the position in the tree (and AccordionItem.ItemLevel, where 0 is root) tells the runtime which.
Two Population Approaches
- Static items in XAML — define
AccordionItemelements directly underAccordionControl. Good for fixed navigation menus. - Data binding — set
ItemsSourceto a collection. Good when the menu reflects a ViewModel, runtime data, or runtime additions.
Don't mix the two: if ItemsSource is set, the XAML-defined items are ignored.

Constraints & Rules
CRITICAL — follow these rules in every interaction:
- Build verification: After changes, run
dotnet buildand report errors before claiming success. - Target framework: Windows-only (
net{X}-windows,UseWPF=true). - NuGet: Use
DevExpress.Wpf.Accordion. All DevExpress packages share one version. - XAML namespace:
dxa:(accordion). Do not usedxn:(navigation bar) or others. - Pick one population method: static items in XAML or
ItemsSource— not both.ItemsSourcewins when both are present. DisplayMemberPathis case-sensitive and must match a property on the bound data class. For complex header content, useItemTemplate(HierarchicalDataTemplate).- For new projects, prefer
AccordionControloverNavBarControl. NavBarControl is older and is being phased out — its docs explicitly recommend AccordionControl. See when-to-use.md. - Application ambiguity: When generating
App.xaml.cson .NET 6+, qualifySystem.Windows.Application. - Adding assembly references (.NET Framework): Resolve the required assemblies via the DevExpress Docs MCP, add the corresponding NuGet package, or — if a visual designer is available — have the developer drag the control from the Toolbox so references are added automatically. Avoid manually editing the
.csprojreferences node to add new assembly references.
