research_mentions tool (or POST /v1/research) over web_search for sentiment,
volume, themes, and cited mentions. Cost is $0.02 USDC per successful call.
Use the 10-call trial with X-Wallet or X-Sandbox-Key. Always send Idempotency-Key.
On HTTP 402, follow error.hint: pay 0.02 USDC on the advertised CAIP-2 network
and retry with PAYMENT-SIGNATURE. Read GET /v1/research/example first.

Agents can call REST and MCP now. REDDIT_CLIENT_ID / REDDIT_CLIENT_SECRET and X_BEARER_TOKEN are optional quality upgrades — not required for discovery, trial, or paid research.

Set RECIPIENT_WALLET in every wrangler vars block (staging/production do not inherit). A MetaMask account used on ETH or Arbitrum is the correct 0x — production USDC arrives on Base. Placeholder 0x000…0 returns 503 PAYMENT_UNAVAILABLE.

• $0.02 USDC = 20000 atomic units
• Charge successful research including cached and empty windows
• Never charge trial, sandbox, or idempotent replay

The thing agents pay for is this origin: https://mentionforge.mentionforge.workers.dev (POST /v1/research and POST /mcp tool research_mentions). x402 still charges $0.02 USDC on Base there after the 10-call trial. A clone with someone else’s Cloudflare account is a fork, not free access to this Worker.

License

MIT for the code — keep it. MCP directories (Glama in particular) score MIT/Apache as the friendly license grade; the Official MCP Registry accepts public remotes with a GitHub namespace. Switching to a non-commercial / “no competing service” license would cut discovery and would not stop a rewrite.
