Glazing Knowledge MCP

MCP serverAI & models

Commercial glass & glazing reference for AI agents: code limits, glass data, product equivalents.

Available today. Use it from your connected AI after setup.

Add ahel to your AI once: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code or Codex. Then ask it to use this.

Then ask your AI: use Glazing Knowledge MCP to list topics

Install Glazing Knowledge MCP

The server’s own address, for the clients that take one directly. Or connect ahel once and every client you use reads it from one address, with the account kept on ahel rather than in each client’s config.

  • Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user glazing-knowledge-mcp 'https://glazing-mcp.glazingkb.workers.dev/mcp'

Run it once in your project, then open /mcp to approve any sign-in the server asks for.

  • Claude Desktop

    https://glazing-mcp.glazingkb.workers.dev/mcp

Add a custom connector in Settings, paste this address, and approve the sign-in.

  • Cursor

    cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=glazing-knowledge-mcp&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2dsYXppbmctbWNwLmdsYXppbmdrYi53b3JrZXJzLmRldi9tY3AifQ==

Open the link and Cursor adds the server at that address.

  • ChatGPT

    https://glazing-mcp.glazingkb.workers.dev/mcp

In Settings, enable Developer mode, create an MCP app, and paste this address. Your plan and workspace must allow custom apps.

  • Codex

codex mcp add glazing-knowledge-mcp --url 'https://glazing-mcp.glazingkb.workers.dev/mcp'

Run it once, then sign in with codex mcp login glazing-knowledge-mcp if the server asks for an account.

From the project's README

As published by shanethelion/glazing-mcp in README.md.

A free, hosted Model Context Protocol server that gives AI agents a curated reference for US commercial glass and glazing: architectural glass makeups and performance data, coated-glass and aluminum-framing "or equal" cross-references, safety-glazing, energy, impact and fire code limits, and early-stage budget ranges. Every answer is cited to a topic and section and keeps a confidence tag, so you can see how solid each item is.

This repository holds listing and connection information only. The server itself is hosted; there is nothing to install.

What it covers

  • Glass: annealed, heat-strengthened, tempered, laminated, insulating glass, low-E and reflective coatings, spandrel, low-iron, heat soak, glass performance terms (VLT, SHGC, U-factor, LSG).
  • Glass performance data: 227 one-inch insulating-glass makeups from Vitro, Guardian SunGuard and Viracon, filterable by maker, product, substrate, SHGC, VLT, U-value and LSG. Old product names are mapped to current ones.
  • Equivalents: coated-glass equivalents across makers with a match rating (Close / Approximate / Not supported by the numbers), and storefront, curtain wall, entrance and window series equivalents across major aluminum framing manufacturers, with discontinued and renamed notices.
  • Codes and standards: safety glazing (IBC 2406), energy (IECC, ASHRAE 90.1, Title 24), hurricane/impact, fire-rated glazing, wind load (ASTM E1300), railings and guards, testing standards.
  • Systems and practice: storefront, curtain wall, all-glass/butt-glazed walls and doors, structural silicone, sealants, specs, submittals, warranties, lead times, estimating red flags.
  • Budget ranges: experienced-estimator 2026 US installed budget ranges for early estimating and sanity checks. Never for bids.

32 topics in all, US national coverage.

Confidence tags

Answers keep the knowledge base's tags. Agents are asked to pass them on to you.

TagMeaning
[V]Verified against a published source
[V-mfr]Manufacturer-published claim
[UNVERIFIED]Needs confirmation before you rely on it
[inference]Reasoned from sources
[Expert]Practitioner judgment (e.g. budget ranges)

Tools

ToolWhat it does
list_topicsLists the 32 topics with one-line summaries and how many items in each are still unverified.
get_topicReads a full topic or one section (e.g. 30.4, sources, summary table), with tables intact. Long topics are paged.
search_glazing_knowledgeKeyword (BM25) search across all topics. Returns cited snippets with topic and section ids, matching tables, and tags.
lookup_glass_performanceFilters center-of-glass data for 1 in. IGUs by maker, product, substrate, max_shgc, min_vlt, max_u, min_lsg. Returns VLT, reflectance, U (air/argon), SHGC, LSG and catalog status.
cross_reference_glassGiven a coating (e.g. SNX 62/27, Solarban 70, VNE-53), returns equivalents from other makers with a match rating.
cross_reference_aluminum_systemGiven a framing series (e.g. Kawneer Trifab 451), returns equivalent series from other manufacturers with basis, status, and discontinued notices.
budget_price_range[Expert] 2026 US installed budget ranges for a scope item (per SF, LF, each, or LS). Budget use only.

All tools are read-only and idempotent (readOnlyHint: true, destructiveHint: false). Glass values are center-of-glass, not NFRC whole-product ratings.

Example prompts

  • "What's the Vitro equivalent of Guardian SunGuard SNX 62/27?"
  • "Kawneer Trifab 451: what are the equals from other manufacturers?"
  • "Max size for 1/2 in. tempered butt-glazed glass?"
  • "IECC 2021 climate zone 2 fenestration SHGC and U-factor limits?"
  • "List 1-inch IGUs with SHGC at or below 0.25 and VLT of at least 50%, sorted by LSG."
  • "Which glazing locations does IBC 2406 treat as hazardous?"
  • "Budget range per SF for exterior storefront?"

Pricing

Free during launch. Per-request agent payments (pay-per-call over the x402 protocol, so agents can pay without an account) are planned for some tools later. Topic browsing will stay free, and any change will be announced here before it takes effect.

Privacy and usage logging

Usage is logged anonymously to improve coverage: timestamp, tool name, a redacted and truncated query (emails, phone numbers and long digit strings are masked), result count, latency, MCP client name/version, a coarse user-agent family, and country. No IP addresses, cookies, tokens or personal data are stored. Logs are deleted after 180 days. Don't put confidential project information in queries.

Disclaimer

This service provides general reference information for commercial glazing professionals. It is not engineering, legal, or code-compliance advice, and it is not a substitute for manufacturer data, the code adopted by your jurisdiction, project specifications, or review by a licensed professional. Items tagged [UNVERIFIED] or [inference] need confirmation. Budget ranges are [Expert] estimates that vary by region, scope and market, and must never be used for bids. Equivalents are screening aids: "equivalent" does not mean identical, so check depth, glazing plane, glass thickness, thermal and structural performance before substituting. Information may be out of date; product lines change.
