Emphasis on chemical rigor and food/agriculture relevance.

Article types

Article; Review; Perspective; New Analytical Methods (must show clear advance/validation); Letters to the Editor.

Manuscript structure (ACS)

Title → Authors & affiliations → Abstract → Keywords → Introduction → Materials and Methods → Results and Discussion → (Conclusions) → Author Information → Acknowledgments → Abbreviations → References. A TOC/abstract graphic is required.

  • Abstract: ≤200 words, single paragraph.
  • Keywords: ~6.
  • Word/length: confirm current page/word budget in the ACS guidelines; JAFC favors concise, data-dense papers.

Figures & tables

Figures ≥300 dpi (line art/combination higher); ACS figure widths (~8.25 cm single, ~17.78 cm double); embed fonts (Arial/Helvetica); TOC graphic sized per ACS (~8.5 × 4.75 cm); editable tables; cite in order. Follow ACS SI/units conventions and report method validation (LOD/LOQ, recovery) for analytical work.

Submission checklist
