Remotion Maps

SkillDev tools

This skill gives an AI agent knowledge for building map animations in Remotion videos. It covers five techniques: a static satellite image, Mapbox, MapLibre, MapTiler, and CesiumJS. The agent picks one technique and loads only that technique's guide.

Then ask your AI: use the Remotion Maps skill

Details

Instructions available. Your AI can read the instructions. Execution depends on the setup they require.

Have a Remotion project set up where the agent can add map animation code.

What your AI can do with it

  • Animate a static satellite image mounted in an Img tag
  • Build Mapbox map animations with a key and 3D buildings
  • Build MapLibre map animations with no API key
  • Draw MapTiler annotations on borders, rivers, and labels
  • Create CesiumJS terrain flythroughs with a flight simulator perspective

Getting started

  1. Have a Remotion project set up where the agent can add map animation code.
  2. Decide which of the five techniques fits the shot you want.
  3. For Mapbox, obtain a Mapbox key and make it available to the project.
  4. Tell the agent the chosen technique so it loads only that technique's guide.
  5. Follow the technique's guide to build and render the animation.

What this skill tells your AI

The instructions your AI receives, as published by remotion-dev/remotion in packages/codex-plugin/skills/remotion-maps/SKILL.md and read by Ahel’s review.

Choose exactly one technique from the intended shot, then load only that technique's TECHNIQUE.md. Every technique directory is self-contained and may be removed without breaking the others.

Static map

  • Requires you grab a satellite image and mount it in a <Img> tag, and animate on top

Mapbox

  • Requires a Mapbox key
  • Nicer styles by default
  • Map can display a round globe when zoomed out
  • Includes nice 3D buildings such as the Eiffel tower

MapLibre

  • Requires no API key, fully free
  • Does not include 3D building

MapTiler

  • Uses MapTiler
  • Annotations can be drawn on top of geographic features: borders, rivers, labels

CesiumJS

  • Flythroughs through terrain and mountains
  • "Flight simulator" perspective

Questions

Does MapLibre require an API key?
No. MapLibre requires no API key and is fully free. It does not include 3D buildings.
Does Mapbox require a key?
Yes. Mapbox requires a Mapbox key. It offers nicer styles by default, a round globe when zoomed out, and 3D buildings such as the Eiffel tower.
What can MapTiler annotations draw on?
MapTiler annotations can be drawn on top of geographic features: borders, rivers, and labels.
What does CesiumJS provide?
CesiumJS provides flythroughs through terrain and mountains with a flight simulator perspective.
How does the agent choose a technique?
The agent chooses exactly one technique from the intended shot, then loads only that technique's guide. Each technique directory is self-contained.
