Use this skill when the startup needs the smallest credible route to customers.
Use when
- The startup has a product concept and needs an initial GTM motion.
- The user wants a launch or early distribution plan.
- Messaging and channel choice must be tied to a specific segment.
Do not use when
- The target segment is still undefined.
- The user expects a broad marketing calendar with no strategic focus.
- The work is purely product specification.
GTM failures to avoid
- choosing too many channels at once
- writing abstract messaging disconnected from customer pain
- assuming awareness is the same as adoption
- planning launch theatrics without proof assets
- skipping the metrics that would show whether the motion works
Workflow
1. Confirm the beachhead segment
Restate:
- who we are targeting first
- what trigger makes them pay attention
2. Define the conversion moment
Clarify:
- what action counts as meaningful traction
- what user behavior shows the startup is delivering value
3. Choose the primary motion
Select one dominant path first:
- founder-led sales
- product-led
- community-led
- partner-led
- content or inbound led
Secondary channels may exist, but only after the primary motion is clear.
4. Shape the messaging
Translate the value proposition into:
- core message
- proof points
- objections to address
- channel-specific adaptation
5. Define proof assets and feedback loops
Examples:
- demos
- case studies
- pilots
- testimonials
- landing pages
- onboarding proof
6. Build the 90-day motion
Return a focused plan with:
- first 30 days
- next 30 days
- following 30 days
7. Attach metrics
Track:
- acquisition and activation
- conversion to value
- early retention or repeat behavior
- channel quality
Output format
Return:
1. Beachhead segment and trigger
2. Primary GTM motion
3. Core messaging and objections
4. Channels and why they fit
5. Proof assets to create
6. 90-day execution plan
7. Metrics and feedback loops
8. Major GTM risks
