Subagent-Driven Development
SkillAI & modelsFast iteration with two-stage review (spec compliance, then code quality)
Instructions available. Your AI can read the instructions. Execution depends on the setup they require.
Account requirements not reviewed. Check the skill instructions before use; ahel provides instructions and does not run this skill.
Add ahel to your AI once: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code or Codex. Then ask it to use this.
Then ask your AI: use the Subagent-Driven Development skill
What this skill tells your AI
The instructions your AI receives, as published by myths-labs/muse in skills/toolkit/subagent-driven-development/SKILL.md and read by ahel’s review.

}
vs. Executing Plans (parallel session):
- Same session (no context switch)
- Fresh subagent per task (no context pollution)
- Two-stage review after each task: spec compliance first, then code quality
- Faster iteration (no human-in-loop between tasks)

Example Workflow
You: I'm using Subagent-Driven Development to execute this plan.
[Read plan file once: docs/plans/feature-plan.md]
[Extract all 5 tasks with full text and context]
[Create TodoWrite with all tasks]
Task 1: Hook installation script
[Get Task 1 text and context (already extracted)]
[Dispatch implementation subagent with full task text + context]
Implementer: "Before I begin - should the hook be installed at user or system level?"
You: "User level (~/.config/superpowers/hooks/)"
Implementer: "Got it. Implementing now..."
[Later] Implementer:
- Implemented install-hook command
- Added tests, 5/5 passing
- Self-review: Found I missed --force flag, added it
- Committed
[Dispatch spec compliance reviewer]
Spec reviewer: ✅ Spec compliant - all requirements met, nothing extra
[Get git SHAs, dispatch code quality reviewer]
Code reviewer: Strengths: Good test coverage, clean. Issues: None. Approved.
[Mark Task 1 complete]
Advantages
vs. Manual execution:
- Subagents follow TDD naturally
- Fresh context per task (no confusion)
- Parallel-safe (subagents don't interfere)
- Subagent can ask questions (before AND during work)
vs. Executing Plans:
- Same session (no handoff)
- Continuous progress (no waiting)
- Review checkpoints automatic
Efficiency gains
- No file reading overhead (controller provides full text)
- Controller curates exactly what context is needed
- Subagent gets complete information upfront
- Questions surfaced before work begins
v3.0: Coordinator Integration
Enhanced with patterns from Anthropic's internal coordinator architecture.
4-Phase Alignment
This skill maps onto the coordinator's 4-phase workflow:
| Coordinator Phase | SDD Equivalent |
|---|---|
| Research | Implementer reads task, asks questions |
| Synthesis | Controller synthesizes answers into context |
| Implementation | Implementer implements, tests, commits |
| Verification | Spec reviewer + Code quality reviewer |
Key Upgrade: Synthesis Before Dispatch
When providing context to implementer subagents, synthesize — don't dump:
❌ WRONG: "Here's the plan file, go implement task 3"
✅ RIGHT: "Task 3: Add rate limiting middleware.
File: src/middleware/rateLimit.ts (create new)
Pattern: Follow src/middleware/auth.ts structure.
Limit: 100 req/min per IP using sliding window.
Store: Redis via existing src/lib/redis.ts client.
Tests: src/middleware/__tests__/rateLimit.test.ts"
Continue vs Spawn for Reviewers
- Spec reviewer → Spawn fresh (no implementation bias)
- Code quality reviewer → Spawn fresh (independent assessment)
- Implementer fixing review feedback → Continue (has error context)
