SPF Checker
Check a domain's SPF record, see what is wrong in plain words, and get the exact fix. You also get a verdict on whether the domain is ready to send cold email. Free, no sign-up.
What this checks
- There is exactly one SPF record. Two make SPF fail.
- Every part of the record is valid.
- It ends in a policy, and not in +all.
- It stays under 10 DNS lookups, with includes followed.
- MX and DMARC too, for the cold email verdict.
Questions
What is an SPF record?
A TXT record that lists the servers allowed to send email for a domain. Receivers compare the sending server against it.
Should I use -all or ~all?
Either passes this check. -all asks receivers to reject other servers. ~all asks them to treat those servers with suspicion, and is the safer start while you still find all your senders.
What is the 10 lookup limit?
The SPF standard allows 10 DNS lookups per check, counting every include, a, mx, ptr, exists and redirect, and the ones inside each include. Past 10 the check returns an error and SPF does not pass.
Can a domain have two SPF records?
No. Two records make SPF return an error. Merge them into one record with every include, and one all at the end.
Does a passing SPF mean I reach the inbox?
No. It is one signal. You also need DKIM and DMARC, a warmed up domain and mail people want. It only removes a reason to be rejected.
